We all know about the normal routine maintenance that comes with owning a vehicle, such as oil changes, brake checks, and tire rotations, but don't forget about changing out your cabin air filter.

What is an AC filter?

Like any air conditioner your vehicle's cabin air filter gets dusty and dirty. The filter is designed to block out any dust, pollen, and other airborne pollutants that you may drive through. This helps you to not only have cleaner air in the cabin, which is helpful for those that have respiratory issues or allergies, but it also reduces any foul smelling odors that may come through.

When should I get my AC filter changed?

There are two signs that your filter needs to be replaced: odor and air flow. If you notice that there is a musty odor coming from your AC this could be a sign that your filter is clogged with a lot of dirt and grime. Do you turn your air on and hear a lot of noise, but not much air is coming out? Your filter may be so dirty that air flow is being affected. Both of these can be fixed by simply replacing the air filter with a fresh and clean one.

Each vehicle also has a different suggested time that the air filter should be checked and/or replaced. To find your car's recommended mileage take a look at its owner's manual.

How do I change my AC filter?

Some vehicles make it relatively easy to change out the AC filter while others have placed it in a more difficult area. You can purchase a filter at any parts store and try to switch it out yourself or you can bring your vehicle into a service department to have a technician take care of it.

If you would like to have your AC filter changed here at Jim Ellis Genesis don't hesitate to contact us and schedule an appointment at your leisure. Improve your drive with filtered, fresh air.

Have you ever had your hands full and tried to open up the trunk of your G80 or G90? It's a disaster. First you have to juggle everything as you bend down and insert the key. Something almost always ends up on the ground and it's just a frustrating way to start your trip. Even if you have a button on your key fob it can still be annoying. You have to find the key and pull it out and find the right button, but thankfully, Genesis has solved this problem with: the smart trunk.

Like the above video describes all you have to do is have the key somewhere on you, stand behind the car for three seconds and it will pop right open. If you don't want it to, but you hear the beeping warning noise, simply press a button on the key fob and it will stop.

It's that simple and a smart way to make your life a little bit easier.

If you'd like to test it out for yourself, we, here at Jim Ellis Genesis, welcome you to visit our Atlanta, Georgia, dealership at any time. We would love to show you how it works and offer you a test drive while you're here. You never know, you may just leave with a brand new Genesis G80 or G90 sedan!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a smart trunk?

A smart trunk allows you to access your trunk without pushing a button or moving a muscle. It's about to make carrying a handful of groceries or luggage to your vehicle a whole lot easier. Some smart trunks require you to make a motion or press a button to open the trunk. The Genesis smart trunk is a completely hands free smart trunk. This smart trunk can sense when the fob approaches it, allowing it to be ready to open on its own!

How does the Genesis smart trunk work?

Great question! Through high-tech systems, the hands free smart trunk automatically detects the presence of a driver's key fob through a wireless transponder. Fancy lingo. We know. Let's simplify: Once you walk up to your trunk, the Genesis smart trunk will start to beep. If you are still at your trunk on the fourth beep, the trunk automatically opens! That means you won't have to put your purse on the floor, readjust your groceries, or try not to drop the coffee in your hands. That's an advantage over other brands that require you to wave a foot or push a button - requiring some serious balance.

You may be thinking, "What if it accidentally opens?" We meant it when we said the hands free smart trunk system is high-tech. It is engineered only to operate if the fob has already been away from the vehicle for more than 15 seconds. That means it's not going to release if you're just moving around your garage or walking around your vehicle. Your hands free smart trunk won't open until you've been away from your car. If for some reason you don't want the trunk to activate, press any button on your smart fob during the alert stage, and it will deactivate.

How do I set up my smart trunk?

Please note that the factory default setting is for the smart trunk to be deactivated, so set up is required. But it's very simple. Let us break it down for you.

  • Step One: Make sure the car is on at all times.
  • Step Two: Go to the "settings" section on the information center in front of your steering wheel.
  • Step Three: Find the "door" section. From there, make sure the "smart trunk" option has a check mark next to it.
  • Step Four: Walk behind your trunk with your key fob in your purse or pocket (remember - you don't even have to be holding it) and your trunk will open after the beeps!

It's just that easy! If for some reason you are having trouble or your Genesis smart trunk isn't working, just contact our service center. They'll be happy to walk you through it or do any maintenance that needs to be done to make sure it's working properly.

How do I open the smart trunk?

Just wait for the four beeps. Whether your smart fob is in your hand, in your purse, in your pocket, in your fanny pack, on your keychain, or anywhere else close to you, the hands free smart trunk will detect it. All you have to do is wait for the fourth beep in the alert stage, and voila! It will open. If you don't feel like waiting or you don't have your hands full, you can always manually press the trunk button on your smart fob, and it can open that way as well.
